About the Social Performance Start-up Fund for Networks

The initiative of setting up the Social Performance Start-up Fund for Networks is a response to the need of scaling up Social Performance Management in the microfinance industry. The initiative aims at increasing transparency and implementation of the Social Performance Management processes and tools by microfinance institutions. This goal will be achieved by developing capacity of microfinance associations to work with their members on SP Standards Reporting and its alignment to local context as well as elements of SP Management.

The project is funded by the Ford Foundation and implemented by the Microfinance Centre.

SP Start-Up Fund’s Goals

The ultimate goal of the Fund will be to increase transparency and SPM take-up by MFIs through supporting networks’ SPM outreach to their members. To achieve the final goal, the Fund will have the following core objectives:

  1. Increase the number of networks that implement SPM related activities with their members;

  2. Increase the number of networks’ member MFIs that start implementing SPM activities or widen the scope of implemented SPM activities;

  3. Increase the number of local consultants and trainers capacitated to support networks’ staff and members in implementing SPM activities.
     

    4. Additionally, the Fund will work towards the following complementary objectives necessary for SPM scale-up:

  4. Facilitate experience sharing among networks;

  5. Broker transparent information on the SPM related supply to help networks identify relevant support for their members in SPM scale-up. 

Who can benefit?

The SP Start-up Fund will support national microfinance networks from Africa(*), Asia and Eastern Europe (non-EU countries), that express interest in initiating SP activities with their member institutions.

What are the SP Start-up Fund services?

The SP Start-up Fund will provide the following mix of services to national networks:

  • one-year grants [up to USD 50,000] for starting-up social performance related activities with their members,
  • support in development and implementation of the network’s social performance plans,
  • capacity building of the network staff and local consultants in fundamentals of Social Performance Management and SPTF/MIX SPS Reporting ,
  • information brokerage on available SP related educational and networking opportunities,
  • Information brokerage on available technical assistance opportunities for networks and their members.

What does the SP Start-up Fund strives to achieve?

By the end of 2012, the SP Start-up Fund will have:

  • supported at least 11 networks,
  • educated 220 practitioners in fundamentals of SPM and SPTF/MIX SPS Reporting(**),
  • built capacity of over 20 network staff and local consultants in promoting and carrying out start up SP activities,
  • initiated SPM improvement related processes in over 50 MFIs,
  • developed 11 case studies on SPM start up by networks.

(*) Excluding countries of CRS/Mission Program presence: i.e. excluding Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Senegal.
(**) Social Performance Standards were developed by SPTF; the reporting on SPS is facilitated by the MIX.

L’initiative de créer le Fonds de démarrage dans les Performances Sociales pour les Réseaux de microfinance constitue une réponse au besoin de renforcer la Gestion des Performances Sociales dans l’industrie de microfinances. Cette initiative a pour but d’améliorer la transparence et la mise en pratique des processus et des outils de la Gestion des Performances Sociales dans les institutions de microfinance. Cet objectif sera réalisé par l’augmentation de la capacité des associations de microfinance à travailler avec leur membres sur le reporting standardisé relatif aux PS ainsi que son ajustement aux contextes locaux et à des éléments de la Gestion des Performances Sociales.

Le projet est financé par la Fondation Ford et réalisé par le Microfinance Centre.

Qui peut en bénéficier?

Le Fonds PS supportera des réseaux nationaux de microfinance de l’Afrique*, Asie et de l’Europe de l’Est (pays en dehors de l’UE) qui déclareront leur interêt à initier des activités relatives aux performances sociales avec leur institutions-membres.
 

Quel est l’offre du Fonds PS?

Le Fonds PS offrira aux réseaux nationaux un choix de services d’assistance suivant :

  • des allocations pour les projets d’un an (jusqu’à 50.000 USD) pour initier des activités dans le domaine des performances sociales avec leur membres,

  • support pour les réseaux dans le développement et la mise en pratique des plans relatifs aux performances sociales,

  • renforcements des compétences du personnel des réseaux et des consultants locaux dans les bases de la Gestion des Performances Sociales et dans le reporting standardisé au SPTF/MIX SPS**,

  • mediation dans l’échange d’informations relatives aux opportunités d’éducation et du networking dans le domaine des PS,

  • mediation dans l’échange d’informations relatives aux opportunités d’assistance téchnique pour les réseaux et leur membres.

*Les pays où est présent le Programme CRS/Mission sont exclus du financement.
** Les Standards des Performances Sociales ont été établi par le SPTF ; le reporting standardisé relatif aux PS est facilité par le MIX.
 

Quels résultats vise le Fonds PS?

A la fin du 2012, le Fonds PS dervait atteindre des résultats suivant:

  • fournir le support à minimum 11 réseaux,

  • former au moins 220 practiciens dans les bases du SPM et du reporting standardisé au SPTF/MIX SPS,

  • accroître les qualifications proffessionnelles de plus de 20 employés des réseaux et des consultants locaux dans le domaine de la promotion et d’initiation des activités relatives aux PS,

  • lancer des processus du perfectionnement du SPM dans plus de 50 IMF,

  • élaborer 11 études de cas sur le démarrage du SPM par les réseaux.
