Goal: Test the ability and willingness of low income people to save on a regular basis for an extended period of time
Objectives: Validate the effectiveness of alternative incentive schemes (lottery, match deposits, reminders); Identify people who are more likely to participate in financial education and savings promotion schemes from among low-income people who are social benefits recipients; Document the experience and lessons learnt from the experiment in order to stimulate discussion on effective ways to increase savings and change saving practices of low-income people in countries in economic transition
Targets: 190 reminders recipients; 60 participants of lottery and match; 110 control group
Main activities: Identify local partners; Design of the incentive schemes; Design a program start-up toolkit and session; Develop research methodology and tools; Deliver the financial education training program and recruit participants for the project; Organize final program meeting; Evaluate the experiment; Disseminate project results
